Carris awards to CaetanoBus more 30 electric buses to integrate its fleet in Lisbon

Carris has awarded 30 new e.City Gold electric buses from CaetanoBus, in a contract of 12,7M € . These units will be the second batch of e.City Gold electric buses for Carris.

After a long history of cooperation, between the two companies, we are happy to announce that Carris has acquired 30 new e.City Gold electric buses from Caetanobus, in a contract of 12,7M €.

The buses will have a new version of batteries, with greater capacity, which will allow the operator to carry out the different and demanding routes of the city without the need for intermediate charging throughout the day. Besides this, the vehicles will be equipped with the most recent air conditioning system, driving support safety systems for the driver and passengers - camera rear-view system (replacing the mirrors), systems to warn of the presence of pedestrians, bicycles and scooters in places of low visibility on urban routes, eliminating the danger of blind spots, and active and passive safety systems, such as the distance radar for the vehicle in front, the lane change warning system, among others.

These units will be the second batch of e.City Gold electric buses for Carris, as there are already 15 units in operation since 2019, however these new buses will have some new features as a result of the continuous R&D of CaetanoBus. So greater availability of the bus, with greater autonomy, comfort and safety of the driver, passengers, and remaining participants of the urban ecosystem, are the main characteristics of these 30 new buses, 100% electric and 100% built in Portugal.

Nuno Lago de Carvalho, Chief Commercial Officer of CaetanoBus, highlights: "we are proud to be the best positioned company in a highly demanding international tender where CaetanoBus battery electric buses were the choice of Carris. We are happy to deserve, once again, the trust of Carris to help in the process of electrification of its bus fleet. We are also very happy to continue to contribute to a greener and higher quality public transport service in Portugal”.

Furthermore, to the buses, the entire charging infrastructure will also be supplied, which will include sixteen Siemens SICHARGE UC 100 chargers, also manufactured in Portugal, (Corroios). The project also includes the monitoring and control system of the charging facilities, which allows a safe, reliable and efficient use of the equipment.
