CaetanoBus awarded by Strasbourg for the biggest ever framework agreement in France for hydrogen buses
CaetanoBus awarded by Strasbourg for the biggest ever framework agreement in France for hydrogen buses
Following an international and demanding tender, the French public transport operator, CTS – Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois, has selected CaetanoBus for a framework agreement to supply up to 60 electric hydrogen-powered bus, during the next 5 years. The H2.City Gold units will be equipped with the new generation of Toyota fuel cell stack. The city of Strasbourg, home of the European Parliament, intends to invest in hydrogen mobility in the coming years, and CaetanoBus is the first company awarded to supply electric hydrogen-powered buses. This could be a major milestone for CaetanoBus, since it is the biggest framework agreement ever in France for electric hydrogen-powered buses to a single bus operator and the orders can go up to 60 units of the H2.City Gold model. The H2.City Gold, co-branded by CaetanoBus and Toyota, is a standard low-floor lightweight bus with an aluminium body that from 2024 will be equipped with the new generation of the Toyota Fuel Cell stack with a nominal power of 70 kW. The buses are also equipped with a small LTO battery pack with a capacity of 44 kWh and a powertrain with a peak power of 180 kW. This is the perfect combination to ensure the most efficiency of the market. The H2.City Gold will offer an autonomy of over 500km, being able to match the conventional diesel buses’ autonomy in a single refill. The French hydrogen bus market has developed a lot in recent times and is becoming one of the most relevant in Europe. The H2.City Gold, co-branded by CaetanoBus and Toyota, is starting to have success in France, as the first units in this country are already in operation with RATP in La Roche-Sur since 2022 and the city of Les Sables d' Olonne will receive theirs first units in this year. In the end of 2022, the H2.City Gold was also selected to be part of the catalogue of CATP - Centrale d'Achat du Transport Public. Additionally, a H2.City Gold demo bus is doing demonstrations in several French cities and the feedback from bus operators, drivers and passengers has been extremely positive. The beginning of 2023 is being very positive for CaetanoBus as it last month has signed also the biggest ever framework agreement in Europe for electric hydrogen-powered electric buses with Deutsche Bahn and, most recently, was awarded by EMT Madrid to supply its first 10 hydrogen buses units of H2.City Gold as part of the first major hydrogen-powered bus tender in Madrid. Now, with this French contract from CTS, CaetanoBus becomes the European bus manufacture with the biggest orders backlog for electric hydrogen-powered buses. “We are delighted to be part of the scale up of hydrogen fleets in Europe in order to support the decarbonization targets and help future generations having a better quality of life. Hydrogen mobility is crucial for the decarbonization of public transport, and we are very committed to providing this technology now to the city of Strasbourg and in the future to more French cities." said Nuno Lago de Carvalho, Chief Commercial Officer of CaetanoBus.kWh e um grupo motopropulsor com uma potência máxima de 180 kW.
