CaetanoBus is developing an electric bus that will reveal itself as the best solution for mobility to respond to the current issues of global warming, the quality of the air we breathe and our dependence from fossil fuels. This project is co-funded by QREN, under the Competitiveness Factors Operational Program and the European Union through the FEDER.
The Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia will have the privilege of receiving the prototype unit in April. Through the signing of a protocol between CaetanoBus and the Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, one will be able to see this bus in circulation in Vila Nova de Gaia for a period of three months. This electric bus will be jointly monitored by technicians of a subsidiary of the Salvador Caetano Group and of Porto University (Engineering Faculty).
Also in April, a second electric bus will be completed en route to the city of Offenbach in Germany, where it will be put into the regular service, undercover a test programme. For CaetanoBus this represents its entry into a completely new segment because not only is it producing the body but also its own chassis.
Series production of this model will commence at the end of this year and it is expected that each unit will cost around 500 thousand Euros.
