The Public Transport Company Carris will strengthen its service with the acquisition of 165 new buses, which was formalized through the signing of two contracts last Friday. The ceremony took place at the Santo Amaro Station and was attended by the Environment Minister, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, the Mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Carris, Tiago Farias.
One of the contracts consists of the purchase of 125 gas coaches carted by CaetanoBus, which represents an investment of 28 million euros. There are also two more tender phases, one for the acquisition of 30 electric buses by 2021.
José Ramos, President of Salvador Caetano Indústria and Jorge Pinto, CEO of CaetanoBus, were present at this event which, according to Fernando Medina, was a demonstration of the “very strong presence of the national industry” in the CARRIS fleet renewal process.
